The Buddy Holly Project
- Petition to release a live album with Buddy Holly
The InspirationI can't start talking about rock and roll and not mention Buddy Holly. He is one of my favorites when it comes to the origins of rock music. Being a guitar player myself, Buddy is a big influence on me. The fact that he wrote and played his own songs is just to creative and amazing. Buddy Holly was, and still remains, one of the greatest musicians of all time.

There are many songs that survived through the years, as well as video footage of Buddy performing live. There are a couple of live recordings that are available too, if you look hard enough. A thought that came to me was "Why isn't there a live album?". There are a couple of videos and live recordings of Buddy Holly - Why not just put them on a CD and DVD? You can hear how good he was in the studio, but once you hear him live, it almost feels like you're there. It feels like you're at his concert, listening to him strum his Stratocaster, watching as he sings his heart out with a big smile on his lips. His talent really shows through when he sings in front of an audience and I bet that he enjoyed entertaining them.
It's been over fifty years since Buddy passed away, and I'm fearing that young people will have no clue on the important people that have made such an impact on us. I am a young girl who just wants to continue to keep Buddy Holly's legacy alive. A new release with Buddy Holly would be a great way to show everyone who he is. And I think that a live album is something that Buddy would have loved.
The IdeaA collection of live audio as well as interviews, would make a perfect CD. If you've heard about The Beatles "Live At The BBC", then you know that it's a live album, which features The Beatles. I think that this albums sets a great example of how The Beatles sounded live (without the screaming girls). If someone looked through the old archives thoroughly, then there might be a possibility that we'll find a forgotten recording of Buddy Holly performing. If we were to collect all the surviving tapes, then we could actually make an album. Send it to a studio - They could enhance the sound even more and make it sound more clearer. It's not impossible, I know that there is someone who is willing to do this kind of project.

The same goes with the videos. If one could look though the archives, there might be a hidden gem; A forgotten TV-performance that no one has seen in the last fifty years. If you send the video to a studio, they might be able to turn the blurry footage into a clear, high definition video where you can see him clearly.
Have you heard about the recent release from The Beatles? Their greatest hits have been re-released as videos on DVD. The videos - That The Beatles recorded in the sixties - Have been remastered and turned into HD. Fans have been longing for this; Now their wait is over. Can we do the same for Buddy? Can we collect every interview, every taped performance, whether it's video or audio, and release them for fans to enjoy? I know that this would make Buddy proud; To know that there are people who still listen to his music. People who still love his music and people who still loves him. |
I want to reach out to Buddy's widow, Maria Elena Holley, and Paul McCartney. They own the right to Buddy Holly's music, therefore I want to reach out to them especially. I hope that they will consider this idea, and hopefully turn it into reality. It's also the fans I want to get involved. If you sign the petition, maybe Maria or Paul will see it. Maybe they'll think this is a great idea. Or maybe it's something that can't be done. No matter how it goes, I still want to spread the word.
Buddy Holly might be gone, but he is never forgotten. |
In loving memory of Charles Hardin Holley
